Trump demands removal of 'distorted' portrait in Colorado Capitol
Donald Trump harshly criticized the artist Sarah Boardman for painting an "unfavourable" portrait that hangs in the Colorado State Capitol. The former president is demanding that Governor Jared Polis remove the artwork located next to portraits of other presidents.
Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on the TruthSocial platform, claiming that the portrait in Colorado was deliberately distorted. "Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted," Trump wrote, "to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before."
Sarah Boardman, the artist responsible for the portrait, previously painted Barack Obama during his presidency, a work Trump acknowledged was successful.
"The artist also did President Obama, and he looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst. She must have lost her talent as she got older," Trump added.
Reactions of Colorado residents
Trump claims that many residents of Colorado contacted him to express their discontent over the unfavourable portrait. They are really angry!" he said, adding that he is reaching out to Governor Polis on their behalf, whom he believes is "very weak on the issue of fighting crime." "Jared should be ashamed!" he concluded.
The portrait was first unveiled in 2019 during Trump's first term in the White House. It is unclear what prompted him to express his dissatisfaction on social media on Sunday evening (Eastern Time).
