Trump eyes Greenland with financial incentives, strategic influence
The Donald Trump administration has developed a plan to take control of Greenland. This plan does not involve the use of force but focuses on influencing the island residents' opinions about joining the USA, writes "The New York Times." The plan also includes financial incentives.
According to the "NYT," the Donald Trump administration has already begun implementing the plan aimed at taking control of Greenland. Several ministries are involved in these efforts, having received specific instructions.
According to information obtained by "The New York Times," the plan for the United States to take over Greenland was discussed at several National Security Council meetings. As part of this, actions are planned to persuade the island's population of 57,000 to request joining the USA.
Among the considered actions were advertising campaigns and social media activities. The US message would invoke the shared heritage of Greenlanders and Inuits, as well as the Indigenous peoples of Alaska.
Trump wants to offer financial benefits to Greenland's residents
The Trump administration is also considering the possibility of offering Greenlanders financial benefits. One idea is an annual grant of CAD 13,500 for each island resident, which would replace the current CAD 770 million that Greenland receives from Denmark every year.
Some Trump administration officials believe these expenses could be offset by new revenues from exploiting Greenland's natural resources such as rare earth minerals, copper, gold, uranium, and oil.
