  • Donald Trump has long promised that upon becoming the U.S. president, he would quickly end the war in Ukraine.
  • He told his advisors that he wishes to achieve a ceasefire before the 100th day of his presidency, which comes next week.
  • Now, in private talks, he is said to acknowledge that working out an agreement between Russia and Ukraine is harder than he thought.

According to the American television network CNN, which cites sources, Trump often mentions in conversations that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, hate each other, which he believes makes negotiations even more difficult.

The U.S. president told his advisors that he would like to broker a ceasefire between the parties before the 100th day of his presidency, which is next week.

Trump criticized Russia after the bombing of Kyiv

Although for most of his second term Trump mainly directs his anger at Ukraine, CNN notes that on Thursday he criticized Russia for the bombing of Kyiv. Trump wrote that Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital are unnecessary and come at a very bad time. He appealed to Putin to cease actions and make a peace deal.

According to CNN, these statements from Trump show his growing frustration over the lack of effective pressure on Putin to end the war.
