Later that same day, Trump himself confirmed it.

Nevertheless, Trump expressed optimism and hope that he would manage to bring an end to the conflict, claiming that there is "really good chance" for this. When asked whether he believes Vladimir Putin is "playing him" Trump replied that "nobody is plying him" but added that it will become clear in the coming days.
Medvedev comments on Trump's words
Medvedev commented on these events on his English-language account on the platform X.
"American officials have said that if there is no progress on the Ukrainian case, the United States will wash its hands of it. Wisely. And the EU should do the same. Then Russia will figure it out faster" - wrote the Vice Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
