What do you need to know?

  • Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with CBS News, urged Donald Trump to visit Ukraine.
  • Donald Trump said that the station has lost control and should "pay a high price" for targeting him.
  • Trump is calling on the Federal Communications Commission to penalize CBS News after segments about Ukraine and Greenland were published on the program "60 Minutes."

In a post published on Sunday on his Truth Social channel, Donald Trump called for the revocation of CBS News's license and urged the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, to impose maximum fines and penalties for the station's "unlawful and illegal behaviour."

Trump infuriated by Ukraine segment

Trump criticized the program, which previously featured an interview with the Ukrainian President. On the "60 Minutes" CBS News broadcast, aired directly from Kryvyi Rih, which is under Russian attack, Zelensky urged Donald Trump to visit Ukraine.

Zelensky expressed his dislike for Vladimir Putin due to the invasion of Ukraine and emphasized that Trump's visit could help him understand the war's repercussions.

In the Greenland segment, the program included statements from locals opposed to annexation.

The President of the United States accused the program of defamation. He claimed the media did everything possible to ensure Kamala Harris's election as U.S. President and alleged the station's involvement in the "rigged elections" of 2020 in the United States.

"They are not a 'News Show,' but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as 'News,' and must be responsible for what they have done, and are doing," Trump wrote about "60 Minutes," announcing a lawsuit.

Meanwhile, international media outlets highlight that the US President's attacks on CBS News and the "60 Minutes" program are not new.
