Trump proposes 50% tariff on EU to counter trade deficit
I recommend implementing a 50 per cent tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025, Donald Trump announced on social media.
Donald Trump stated on his platform that the European Union was created to take advantage of the United States in trade. "It has been very hard to endure," he commented.
"Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable," the American president listed in his post. "Our discussions with them are going nowhere!" he added.
Donald Trump conveyed that he had made a decision regarding the recommendation on tariffs for the European Union effective from June 1.
"I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025. There is no Tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States," Trump explained.
