During a meeting about organizing next year's World Cup in soccer, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that excluding Russia from the G8 group was a mistake. According to him, perhaps the current conflict in Ukraine might not have occurred if not for that decision. However, Trump emphasized that now is not the right time for Russia to return to the G7.

Trump also referred to the talks between his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Vladimir Putin. He stated that, thanks to these negotiations, Russia abandoned its plans to take over all of Ukraine. "What Russia wants is all of Ukraine. And if I didn’t get involved, they would be fighting right now for all of Ukraine," said Trump.

The World Cup as motivation

When asked about Russia's exclusion from the World Cup, Trump admitted he was not aware of it but suggested that Russia's return to the games could be a motivation to end the war. A similar stance was taken by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who announced that once the conflict ends, Russia will be able to return to the organization.

Despite tensions with Canada and Mexico, Trump assured that all countries are fully cooperating to organize the World Cup. He emphasized having a "very good meeting" with Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and assessed that their relations would be great.

Security and visas for fans

Head of Homeland Security Kristi Noem assured that American services will expedite the issuing of visas for fans visiting the U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance added that while fans are welcome, they should return to their countries after the event, suggesting that otherwise, they may be deported.

In conclusion, Trump announced that Andrew Giuliani, the son of the former mayor of New York and Trump's former lawyer, will become the head of the task force for organizing the World Cup. This is another step in preparations for this major sporting event.
