Trump's diplomatic push: Fostering dialogue for Ukraine ceasefire
When asked about his assessment of talks with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia in recent days, Donald Trump stated that they were two "very good" conversations.
- Donald Trump held talks recently with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.
- When asked about the discussions, the US President shared that they were "very good."
- We are working on a ceasefire, he added.
Donald Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday and with Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday. According to a White House statement, the result of Tuesday's conversation is an agreement that the first step towards ending hostilities would be a ceasefire regarding attacks on infrastructure and energy installations.
After concluding the Trump-Zelensky conversation, the US President mentioned that the goal was to reconcile Russia and Ukraine's positions "in terms of their requests and need," and assured: We are very much on track.
In the White House statement, it was also mentioned that Trump suggested in the conversation with Zelensky that the United States might take over Ukrainian nuclear power plants to ensure their security. The US President also promised to work with both sides of the conflict to ensure that children abducted in Ukraine return home. The statement announced that teams from both sides would meet in Saudi Arabia to " discuss broadening the ceasefire to the Black Sea," aiming for a complete ceasefire.
Zelensky also reported that the Ukrainian and American delegations are ready to meet in the coming days in Saudi Arabia.
"We had two very good phone calls"
On Wednesday, Trump was asked by "Breitbart News" about the course of both conversations.
- The one with President Putin was yesterday — that went very well, Trump said. I then spoke with President Zelensky - he stated, adding that he shared with him the conclusions from the conversation with Putin.
- My aim is to put these two countries together. Then we work a ceasefire and ultimately we stop losing 2,000 people a week. Two thousand people a week or more are being killed in that war, and I want to stop it. I also want to stop massive payments that are necessary to be made by us. I also want Europe to pay the same as us because they weren’t able to do that under Biden - Trump declared.
- We had two very good phone calls, and I believe a deal will be reached so that we can stop the bloodshed that is happening there - he summarized.
