U.S. President Donald Trump is planning a visit to Riyadh, where he will meet with leaders of the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The visit will take place in mid-May, with the aim of strengthening economic and investment cooperation with the Gulf countries. AFP reported this information, citing a source close to the Saudi government. This information was also shared by Axios, citing American and Arab officials.

What countries are part of the GCC?

The Gulf Cooperation Council includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman. The meeting with the leaders of these countries aims to discuss key issues regarding regional cooperation. Trump will arrive in Riyadh on May 13, where bilateral talks with Saudi leaders will take place.

What does Trump's visit plan include?

On the morning of May 14, the Gulf Cooperation Council summit will open. In the afternoon of the same day, Trump will head to Doha for a meeting with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Then, on May 15, he will visit Abu Dhabi, where he will talk with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The White House has announced that details of the trip will be officially announced soon.

During his first term as president, Trump also chose Saudi Arabia as the destination for his first foreign trip. In 2017, he participated in a summit in Riyadh with leaders of dozens of Arab and Muslim countries.
