What were the bridge attacks?

The Russian Investigative Committee accused Ukraine on Tuesday of blowing up two bridges last weekend in western Russia, according to Reuters, citing Russian authorities. Investigators called the attacks acts of terror. The Committee stated that two bridges in the Bryansk and Kursk regions collapsed overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

In the Bryansk region, a road bridge collapsed onto a passenger train travelling from Klimovo to Moscow, which was carrying close to 390 people. As a result of this incident, at least seven people died and 69 were injured.

In the Zheleznogorsk district of the Kursk region, a railway bridge collapsed onto a highway, causing the derailment of a locomotive. The engineers operating it were injured.

How did Russia react?

The Russian Investigative Committee described these attacks as acts of terror aimed at hundreds of civilians. Kremlin authorities accused Ukraine of carrying out these attacks. The Investigative Committee stated on the Telegram app that these actions were deliberately targeted at civilians. Strong condemnations in Russia were directed at the Ukrainian attack.
