Ukraine challenges U.S. on rare Earth agreement draft
The draft agreement regarding rare earth minerals, which the United States sent in a new form, was not positively received by Kyiv. Discussions have already taken place on this matter, and Washington reportedly expressed understanding of Ukraine's concerns.
According to Bloomberg, a video call between Ukrainian representatives and the American side was scheduled for Friday at 1:00 PM Eastern Time. The topic was the draft agreement on rare earth metals sent in a new form. Kyiv again reportedly reacted critically to the provisions contained within it. According to the agency, Washington was said to have positively responded to Kyiv's concerns.
As the authors suggest, this may indicate Washington's openness to discussing changes to the draft.
Bloomberg believes Ukraine will appeal to the United States to amend the new economic agreement proposed by the Trump administration. In particular, it concerns the promise of increased American investments in the country.
Participants in the talks were expected to include, among others, lawyers.
Zelensky opposes the agreement in the proposed form
On Friday evening, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke about the agreement, stating unambiguously that he would not allow the signing of an agreement in such a form that would hinder Ukraine's efforts to seek membership in the European Union.
The president emphasized that "the constitution of Ukraine clearly sets the course for the European Union," and the country is taking steps to achieve this goal. "Very important reforms and appropriate steps are being implemented," Zelensky said.
