Ukraine strengthens missile shield with patriot system deal

During a press conference, President Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's readiness to acquire at least 10 Patriot systems. He has been in discussions about this matter with US President Donald Trump, who stated that America would work on this issue. "Ukraine is ready to buy at least 10 systems. Zelensky revealed that Ukraine is prepared to purchase at least 10 Patriot systems and that this minimum figure was discussed during a phone conversation with President Trump. According to him, Trump indicated that the United States would make efforts in that direction. The cost of exporting a Patriot battery can reach up to $2.5 billion (CAD 3.5 billion), and each missile for this system costs about $10 million (CAD 14 million).
Why does Ukraine need more Patriot systems?
Zelensky has requested that Ukraine's allies provide additional Patriot systems in response to the rising number of Russian air attacks. In a video address to the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, Zelensky underscored Ukraine’s urgent need for additional Patriot air defence systems. Over the past three years, the country has received several such batteries from allies, including the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania.
The President of Ukraine highlighted that he is also holding separate talks with European countries, as the purchase of Patriot systems is very expensive, noting that negotiations are ongoing.
