The Ukrainian armed forces are utilizing American Humvees as platforms for electronic warfare. According to Bulgarian Military, the army is installing numerous antennas on these vehicles to adapt them for intercepting and jamming electronic signals. This innovative approach enables the neutralization of enemy technology, mainly by guarding against drone strikes.

New use of Humvees

Humvees, known for their versatility and mobility, are now being employed to disrupt enemy communication. With modifications, these vehicles can intercept signals, jam communications, and mislead enemy navigation systems. This ability is critical in modern conflicts, where technological superiority is a significant advantage.

It's worth noting that drones have recently become one of the most vital tools for combatting the enemy on both sides of the conflict. The Russians have recently shown how they attach thermobaric warheads to their simple Molniya-2 constructions to enhance their weapon system's effectiveness.

Adaptation to Ukraine's needs

Humvees provided by the USA are adapted for various tasks, ranging from transportation to fire support. Many are equipped with weapon systems, making them effective for rapidly responding to threats. Other models serve logistical support roles, transporting supplies and medical equipment to the front lines.

With their durability and versatility, these vehicles are invaluable in challenging terrain, providing mobility and protection. The HMMWV (Humvee) is an off-road vehicle developed in the 1980s. It was based on the Hummer and uses an engine with a displacement ranging from 6.2 to 6.5 litres, depending on the version.

The Humvee is four-wheel drive, constructed with a steel frame and independent suspension for all wheels, allowing it to easily navigate various terrain obstacles. It can have a Browning M2 HB machine gun, an Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher, or a BGM-71 TOW anti-tank guided missile launcher.
