Ukraine urged to mend fences with Trump amid aid suspension
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was reportedly convincing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reach out to Donald Trump following a public dispute in the Oval Office.
On Tuesday, the British Prime Minister spoke on the phone with Volodymyr Zelensky to convey a "brutal truth" and advise him on what to say to Trump so that discussions could return to normal, reports the Telegraph.
Shortly afterward, the Ukrainian leader posted a lengthy message on social media in which he praised the "strong leadership" of the U.S. President, expressed gratitude for his country's military aid, and directly addressed the controversy in the White House.
"Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive," he wrote on platform X.
According to the Telegraph, the UK and its European allies wanted to use the warm relations with the Ukrainian leader, demonstrated over the weekend at the summit in London, to deliver a "brutal reality."
On Tuesday, after the White House dispute, a White House representative confirmed in a statement to the media that President Donald Trump suspended all military aid to Ukraine to ensure that it contributes to resolving the conflict.
