Ukraine's future hinges on U.S. support, Zelensky warns in Iceland visit
While in Reykjavik, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed a question about Donald Trump's possible outcome in the U.S. presidential elections. He noted that, although the election result remains unknown, they are fully mindful of the potential risks involved, speaking from Iceland's capital.
At a press conference with the prime ministers of Nordic countries, Zelensky emphasized that the biggest danger would be a change in U.S. policy. He also noted that power in the United States is not limited to the president but involves Congress.
The Ukrainian president stressed that the lack of further support for Ukraine would mean a great victory for Putin and serious losses for the West and democratic values. He also added that Ukraine has its plan for victory, although it is difficult to implement, and expressed gratitude for European support.
Zelensky in Reykjavik
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, referring to Zelensky's statements, emphasized that it is no secret that Europe should support Ukraine to a greater extent. He also highlighted the importance of transatlantic cooperation for both sides.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen highlighted the support Russia receives from North Korean troops, alongside backing from Iran and China. She stressed that this situation poses a serious threat to global security.
Zelensky arrived in Reykjavik to participate in a session of the Nordic Council, which includes Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands.
