Ukrainian drone strike obliterates hidden Russian T‑72B3 tank

Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian T-72B3 tank near the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region thanks to a precise drone strike, according to the Ukrainian portal Defence Express. Despite their efforts, the Russians could not conceal one of their more valuable tanks inside a building.

The report states that the Russian T-72B3 tank was destroyed near Lyman. The Russians hid the tank in a building and further reinforced it with improvised armour. However, this was not an obstacle for the Ukrainians, who first located the target and then successfully eliminated it. Drone pilots from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade carried out the operation.

Precise drone strike

Soldiers from the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade provided intelligence on the tank's movements. After confirming the target's location, Ukrainian forces quickly took action. Two key targets were selected for the strike: the tank itself and a nearby ammunition depot.

Even with added protection and improvised shielding, the tank was no match for the highly accurate loitering munition. The strike hit directly, with a shaped charge breaching the armour and setting off a powerful explosion. Soldiers from the SIGNUM group confirmed the destruction of the vehicle, noting that the blast could be heard for an extended period and that the tank was effectively neutralized.

The T-72B3 tank, first developed in the 1970s, has undergone numerous upgrades, with the most notable being the T-72B3 version. This variant gained recognition due to its modern Sosna-U sight and improved reactive armour. The T-72B3 model has a 2A46M 125 mm cannon and PKT machine guns of 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm calibres. These modifications have significantly increased its effectiveness on the battlefield.
