Ukrainian sea baby drones: A lethal force against Russia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has revealed details of an operation conducted using the Ukrainian Sea Baby maritime drones, which have once again demonstrated their capabilities. These drones managed to damage Russian helicopters, airplanes, and patrol boats, as well as strike a barge transporting military equipment and materials for bridge repair in Crimea.

"On the night of December 5-6, the SBU Sea Baby drone group engaged in a battle with Russian helicopters, airplanes, and Raptor patrol boats that attempted to intercept them. (...) Russian pilots saw themselves as hunters expecting an easy target, but they became the prey when the maritime drones fired back," the statement said.

In addition to the statement, a dramatic video of the clash between Ukrainian Sea Baby drones and Russian forces was shared on social media.

The SBU reported that Sea Baby drones were equipped with large-calibre machine guns, which utilized automatic targeting and identification software. They also targeted a barge carrying military equipment and materials needed for repairs on the Crimean bridge, which the Russians are attempting to reconstruct following attacks by Ukrainian special forces.

"Intercepted Russian radio messages indicate casualties and injuries on board the helicopters. The helicopters themselves have been severely damaged and now require extensive repairs," the SBU reported.

Sea Baby drones: A menace for Russians

The Sea Baby platform is multifunctional and can be outfitted with various weapons, including multiple-launch rocket systems, flying drones, and large-calibre machine guns. The SBU emphasizes that it has once again proven its effectiveness in clashes with the invaders.

Sea Baby drones have been operating for many months and are regarded as one of the most significant threats to the Russian Black Sea Fleet. These drones, also equipped with day and thermal imaging cameras, are constantly upgraded, with new versions offering enhanced capabilities. As reported by Karolina Modzelewska, a journalist for Wirtualna Polska, the new version of Sea Baby, unveiled in March of this year, boasts improved technical parameters, combat capabilities, and maneuverability and can operate within a range of approximately 1,000 kilometres (km). It is also capable of carrying up to 1,000 kilograms (kg) of explosives.
