The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) from the 6th "Ranger" Regiment carried out a successful operation against North Korean troops in the Kursk region in Russia. As a result of the operation, 25 North Korean soldiers were eliminated. The SSO command provided this information.

Eight soldiers from the 6th "Ranger" Regiment moved behind enemy lines in an armoured Humvee vehicle. With the assistance of reconnaissance drones, the Ukrainian rangers were able to get within shooting range and took advantageous positions in the trenches. Despite the enemy's numerical superiority, the Ukrainian soldiers maintained the initiative and successfully concluded the skirmish.

The SSO command emphasized that despite artillery fire and the enemy's numerical superiority, the Ukrainian soldiers "did not leave the entire North Korean platoon a chance during the contact." Upon completing the mission, the rangers safely withdrew from the operation site.

Operation background

As noted, this happened last month, but due to operational security, it has only now become possible to talk about it and show video from a drone and body cameras of SSO soldiers - wrote the SSO command.

According to a report from the South Korean think tank KIDA, North Korea's involvement in the Ukraine conflict has resulted in over $20 (CAD 27,5) billion in profit for the Pyongyang regime. It's estimated that around 4,000 of the 11,000 North Korean soldiers sent there have died on the front.

Consequences for the region

North Korea's involvement in the Ukraine conflict may have far-reaching consequences for the region. The South Korean authorities have assured that they will continue to support the Ukrainian people and cooperate with the international community to "restore peace" in Ukraine.

South Korean intelligence services confirmed that Pyongyang sent over a thousand military personnel to Russia at the end of January and the beginning of February.
