Ukrainian strike cripples key Russian radar in Crimea

Ukrainian intelligence conducted a special operation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The target was the Russian Podlet radar station. The estimated value of the destroyed equipment is 5 million dollars (approximately 7 million CAD).

Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) reported the destruction of the Russian Podlet radar station in Crimea. The operation occurred on November 28, 2024, near the town of Kotowskie.

"As a result of a successful operation by DIU, a Russian Podlet radar station was destroyed near the village of Kotovske in the west of temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement reads.

The Podlet radar station, valued at 5 million dollars (around 7 million CAD), was used to detect aerial targets at low altitudes.

A blow to occupation forces in Crimea

It was crucial for the S-300 and S-400 air defence systems. "The intelligence explains that this radar is used by the Russian troops to detect airborne assets at low and extremely low altitudes in a difficult interference environment. The estimated cost of the destroyed Russian radar station is US$5 million (approximately 7 million CAD)," reports Ukrainska Pravda.

The mobile 48IA6-K1 Podlet radar station was used by the Russian military in jamming conditions. The destruction of this station is a significant blow to the Russian armed forces in Crimea.
