Unveiling the complexities: The road to the Russia-Ukraine peace pact
The Russians are avoiding giving a clear answer regarding the Ukrainian-Russian memorandum on negotiations and a ceasefire. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that "everyone wants to do it as quickly as possible, but the devil is in the details."
The joint memorandum between Russia and Ukraine is intended to be the first step towards reaching peace. According to reports, the document will include, among other things, conditions for a ceasefire. The idea for the memorandum emerged from talks in Turkey that took place last week.
It is not yet known when the talks regarding the memorandum will take place. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was asked about this. A trusted associate of Vladimir Putin avoided providing a clear response.
"There are no exact timelines for resolving this conflict, and there cannot be any. Of course, we all want this to happen as soon as possible, but the devil is in the details," Peskov said during an interview with a Russian reporter.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesperson confirmed earlier statements by Kremlin representatives indicating that "Russia and Ukraine will jointly work on the memorandum." For now, the Ukrainian side remains cautious about the memorandum talks.
"The memorandum project will be prepared by both Russian and Ukrainian sides. There will be an exchange of these document drafts, followed by complex contacts to develop a single text," Peskov conveyed.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin commented on the memorandum and its content. The Russian leader stated that he "agreed with Donald Trump on the details of the memorandum." In Volodymyr Zelensky's opinion, this is "playing for time."
