US strikes fuel port in Yemen to weaken Houthi rebels
The United States military destroyed a fuel port in western Yemen. The aim of the attack was to deprive the Houthi rebels of fuel supply sources, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Friday. According to sources close to the rebels, 38 people were killed and 102 were injured.
As stated in the CENTCOM announcement published on platform X, "the objective of these strikes was to degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis, who continue to exploit and bring great pain upon their fellow countrymen."
The Pentagon has not yet commented on reports of casualties.
Operation against the Houthis
The United States initiated large-scale attacks against the Houthis last month, announcing they would continue until the rebels cease terrorizing ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis have been carrying out these attacks since November 2023, claiming that they want to protest the war in Gaza by Israel and help the Palestinians living in that area. The Houthis maintain that they target ships transporting supplies to Israel.
