Venice introduces visitor registration and fee for day trips
This year, tourists visiting Venice without staying overnight must register their visit and pay a fee for 54 days. The city authorities have launched a platform for booking visits and paying these fees.
Venice, one of the most popular tourist destinations not only in Europe but also worldwide, is introducing a new system for visit bookings and fees for tourists. From April 18 to May 4 and on other selected days in May, June, and July, those visiting the city without an overnight stay will need to register their visit and pay the required fee.
New reservation and fee system
The authorities of Venice have launched a website (cda.ve.it) to simplify the registration and payment process for tourists. The fee is €5 (approximately CAD 7.80) if the reservation is made at least four days before arrival. If registration is done later, the cost doubles to €10 (approximately CAD 15.60).
Registration and the fee are mandatory for tourists visiting Venice from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM local time. This system aims to control the flow of tourists and manage their visits, helping to balance the needs of both visitors and city residents.
Days of mandatory registration
This year, the registration requirement applies for 54 days, during times when a high influx of tourists is expected. In addition to the period from April 18 to May 4, these days include May 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 30-31, June 1-2, 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 27-29, and July 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 25-27.
The authorities in Venice emphasize that this unique system, implemented globally, aims to limit the number of tourists visiting for short-term, non-overnight stays and to better manage their influx. It's important to note that the website offers a link allowing exemptions from the fee for those who have a reservation for an overnight stay in Venice.
