WHO urges China to reveal Covid-19 origins for future safety
The WHO is demanding information from China about the origins of the pandemic that began five years ago in Wuhan. "This is a moral and scientific imperative," stated the World Health Organization in a statement.
The COVID-19 pandemic began five years ago. The virus has killed over seven million people and has overwhelmed healthcare systems worldwide.
The WHO reminds us that on December 31, 2019, the organization's country office in China received a report from authorities in Wuhan about cases of "viral pneumonia" in the city. However, China has yet to provide data on the origins of the pandemic.
"Without transparency, sharing, and co-operation among countries, the world cannot adequately prevent and prepare for future epidemics and pandemics," WHO urges.
The statement reads that WHO wants to "honour the lives changed and lost, recognize those who are suffering from Covid-19 and long Covid, express gratitude to the health workers who sacrificed so much to care for us, and commit to learning from Covid-19 to build a healthier tomorrow."
