A portion of Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists was published online, which was unexpectedly interrupted by a phone call that the Ukrainian President decided to answer.

"I'm sorry, I'm currently speaking with journalists"

Soon after, it became clear that on the other end was the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, whom Zelensky addressed immediately after answering the call. "Sorry, Emmanuel! I'm just having a conversation with a journalist. Can I be back in 15-20 minutes?" he asked the French leader.

The recording also shows his statement right after the exceptionally brief conversation ended. Zelensky said, "he just talked with President Macron, with Emmanuel." He added that both leaders are supposed to have phone conversations roughly once a day.

Emmanuel Macron spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky, among other times, at the end of February, right after a disagreement at the White House.

During their meeting, Trump and Zelensky suddenly disagreed. The signing of the bilateral U.S.-Ukrainian agreement on minerals was postponed, and Zelensky left the White House. Shortly afterward, the Élysée Palace reported that President Emmanuel Macron spoke with the leader of Ukraine.

On Monday this week, Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. They were scheduled to discuss, among other things, a conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. Macron posted about the discussion with the Ukrainian President that day on platform X.
