Zombie cult classic revived: '28 Years Later' releases trailer
Although the horror film "28 Weeks Later" was not a major hit in theatres, many today consider it a cult classic. Soon, another instalment will be released - "28 Years Later". There is already a trailer for the production, and in it, a little "treat" for fans of the 2002 film.
The film "28 Days Later" appeared in theatres in 2002. It tells the story of a young man who wakes up from a coma one day in a deserted hospital. It turns out that almost all people are infected with a dangerous virus that turns them into what we would call today - zombies. In 28 days, the world is overtaken by a terrifying epidemic, and those who survive try to stop it somehow. The film earned a little over $80 million in theatres, but to this day, it is considered a cult classic by many horror fans. You could watch Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and Naomie Harris in the lead roles. There will be another instalment.
"28 Years Later" - has the star turned into a zombie?
As it is known, Danny Boyle has directed another film in the series. The premiere is scheduled for June 20, 2025, but interest in the horror is already being stirred up. We will see Jon Harris, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes in the lead roles. The latter has been choosing his roles interestingly - we just saw him as a cardinal in "Conclave," and soon the premiere of "The Return," where he plays a muscular Odysseus. In "28 Years Later," he will play one of the epidemic survivors.
The online trailer shows a dark world where people try to isolate themselves as much as possible from the infected. Piles of skulls, dark forests, childbirths during catastrophes, lots of blood, and furious infected—this will not be light viewing.
The trailer lasts a little over two minutes, and in one second on the screen, surrounded by wildflowers, a skeleton of one of the infected flashes. Internet users are convinced that it is none other than Jim, the protagonist of the first movie. The skeleton even has facial features resembling Cillian Murphy. These are only speculations for now, as he is not officially listed among the cast, and the production does not comment on his alleged "return."
The official description of the film reads: "It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well." The film "28 Years Later" is set to start a new trilogy. Meanwhile, another production from this world is being filmed - "28 Years Later II: The Bone Temple."
