Britons urged to ready as Russia threatens energy sabotage

Russia plans to sabotage gas pipelines, potentially leading to widespread power outages in the United Kingdom. Consequently, Britons have been advised to prepare "survival kits" that would enable them to endure for 72 hours.

Russia is allegedly planning sabotage after a spy ship mapping the UK’s underwater infrastructure in the North Sea was detected. Security advisors are warning British families to prepare 72-hour "survival kits" amid growing concerns about energy sabotage, according to "GB News".

The United Kingdom has become increasingly reliant on foreign energy supplies as it pursues Net Zero goals. Nearly 40 per cent of the UK's gas originates from Norway, mainly via the 700-kilometre Langeled pipeline. The situation has been affected by the closure of coal power plants, among other factors.

Fears of Russian sabotage grew after the spy ship Yantar was found mapping the UK’s key underwater infrastructure. Last year, Defence Minister John Healey ordered a British submarine to surface near Yantar, suspecting interference with undersea cables in the Irish Sea.

Preparations for potential supply interruptions

Security experts suggest that British households prepare three-day "survival kits" containing water, non-perishable food, medication, a battery-powered radio, a torch, identification documents, and a pocket knife.

"We need to become much more self-sufficient, and quickly. And households should be ready for all eventualities," said an anonymous source from "GB News".

Last winter, the UK was on the brink of experiencing power outages. However, it was saved by emergency reserves and energy imports from Denmark.
