Dolphin conversation breakthrough: Google unveils DolphinGemma AI
Experts at Google have developed an innovative programme called DolphinGemma. Its goal is to communicate with dolphins, considered one of the most intelligent mammals in the world. The solution is based on artificial intelligence mechanisms.
Scientists and specialists at Google have developed an innovative system based on artificial intelligence solutions and the commonly known functions of Google Translator. The system is designed to facilitate conversations with animals.
It concerns dolphins, which are considered one of the most intelligent mammals in the world. These animals make characteristic sounds that resemble speech. These include whistles and distinct clicks.
The system invented by Google is set to precisely analyse all dolphin sounds, recognise patterns and form them into speech that can later be translated. Journalists from the British "Metro" indicate that the tool is to operate on artificial intelligence, much like ChatGPT.
The project was named DolphinGemma. It premiered yesterday (14 April), 2023. According to scientists, the dolphin language can already be defined. For example, the characteristic whistles are used when a mother calls her young.
In the opinion of researchers, dolphins are not only able to talk to each other but also have their own names. The first phase of research involves analysing hundreds of thousands of hours of dolphin audio material. Next, the scientists aim to attempt to "translate" the dolphin language in real-time, using Google Pixel phones.
Experts emphasise that the ultimate goal of the mission is not only the rapid translation of the dolphin language but also communicating with them.
