Eurovision star Måns Zelmerlöw opens up on addiction struggle
Måns Zelmerlöw initially denied it, but has now admitted his addiction to drugs. The Eurovision winner from 2015 is divorcing his wife, and just before the court hearing, he spoke about his struggle with addiction.
In March, Måns Zelmerlöw unexpectedly lost the Swedish pre-selection for Eurovision (he wanted to represent his country again). He reacted nervously to the loss, and it was then revealed that he was struggling with personal problems.
He admitted that a week before the concert he separated from his wife, with whom he had been married for five years. Ciara Janson issued a statement in which she accused the artist of infidelity, violence, and addiction. At that time, he denied these claims.
The first divorce case was held on 28 April. Måns Zelmerlöw used this opportunity to come to terms with his past. He gave an interview in which he confessed to regularly using illegal substances.
In a conversation with "Göteborgs-Posten", he declared that he never did it in the presence of his children. He added that it was "hard not to try" because, in his opinion, drugs are a common phenomenon in his industry. Fortunately, he has managed to overcome his addiction.
I told all my close ones about this, and people who were in the same situation helped me. I stopped. I am happy and very proud of this. I will never touch that stuff again. However, I want to emphasize that it never happened at home, and cocaine was a part of nights out — he stated.
The Eurovision 2015 winner believes that under the influence, he did not engage in any dangerous behaviour. He indicated that he regrets the inappropriate behaviour after losing to the band KAJ in the pre-selection. After the results were announced, he spoke critically about the competitors.
For the last 20 years, I worked so much that I didn't have time to work on myself — he summed up.
