According to information provided by "Bild," around 200 people "particularly at risk", who were evacuated from Afghanistan, will be on board. This is already the second charter flight this month through which Germany is bringing refugees from that country.

Hanover Airport has a special terminal D, which is usually used for event processing and does not handle regular passenger services - that's where the group of refugees is to be received.

The German press reminds us that at the beginning of March, a plane with 132 Afghan refugees on board landed at Berlin Airport.

Germany is set to accept more Afghans

According to RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND), many of the Afghan passengers waited for their evacuation for many months in Pakistan. Currently, according to government data, about 2,800 at-risk Afghans have assurance of the possibility to fly to Germany but are still waiting for transportation.

Until that time, they are being supported by the German government agency GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).

RND reports that the costs of accommodation, healthcare, food, and psychosocial support for the at-risk Afghans amounted to approximately £69 million between 2022 and 2024.
