No fresh bread at home? No problem! Turkish rolls are an excellent solution that will delight you with their softness, fluffiness, and simplicity of preparation. Their delicate taste makes them a perfect match with both sweet and savoury toppings. Preparing them takes little time, and the end result is worth every moment spent in the kitchen. Once baked, the rolls impress with a crispy crust and soft interior that melts in your mouth.

Turkish rolls – a simple recipe for success

One of the greatest advantages of Turkish rolls is their straightforward ingredients. A few basic products, usually found in every kitchen, are enough to create exceptional bread. Additionally, if you want a crispier crust, you can turn on the grilling function for a minute or two at the end of baking. The basic version of the recipe allows you to make eight small rolls, but you can easily increase the amount of ingredients to get a larger portion, for example, for a family breakfast or gathering with friends.

Ingredients:

  • 190 grams all-purpose flour,
  • 80 millilitres plain yoghurt,
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil,
  • 1 egg white,
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder,
  • A pinch of salt,
  • 1 egg yolk for brushing,
  • Black cumin seeds for sprinkling.

Preparation:

  1. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients: yoghurt, oil, and egg white.
  3. Combine the dry and wet ingredients, mixing until you achieve a uniform mass.
  4. Divide the dough into eight parts and form balls.
  5. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  6. Brush the rolls with egg yolk and sprinkle with black cumin seeds.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 15 minutes, until the rolls rise and turn golden brown.

Turkish rolls are an excellent addition to breakfast, dinner, or a daytime snack. You can serve them with butter, jam, cheese, vegetable spreads, or as a side to soups. Their unique texture makes them taste like bread straight from a Turkish bakery, yet they are quick and easy to prepare at home. Try them once and you won't want to go back to shop-bought rolls.
