The suspicious behaviour of the French president attracted media attention. Emmanuel Macron travelled to Kyiv by train alongside the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived on a different train.

Macron took an item; he was embarrassed

At a certain point, journalists were allowed into the compartment occupied by the European leaders. As the cameraman focused the lens on the table and the politicians present, the President of France quickly hid an item. His surprise and embarrassment were noted by commentators.

Speculation emerged on the Nexta channel on X: "The internet is buzzing with speculation about what was on the table in the train compartment with Starmer, Macron, and Merz — and what they had to hide when journalists walked in. What do you think it was? "

On Saturday, the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, and Poland emphasised that a condition for the direct Russian-Ukrainian peace negotiations proposed by Putin must be an agreement by Moscow to a 30-day ceasefire commencing on Monday.

Paris calls on Russia for ceasefire

The Élysée Palace stated in a Sunday communiqué that the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, considers a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine a necessary condition for organising a meeting of their leaders in Istanbul, planned for this coming Thursday.

Macron – as noted – "emphatically stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire, which would allow for the holding of Thursday's Russian-Ukrainian summit".

The French authorities added that in this matter, the President of France spoke on Sunday with the leaders of Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland, as well as with the presidents of the USA and Ukraine – Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, called for a complete ceasefire on Monday and announced that he would be waiting for Vladimir Putin in Turkey on Thursday.
