Russian military faces setbacks in bid to secure key gas route
Russia has deployed troops to the Sudzha region, where a critical Gazprom gas pipeline is located. This pipeline is part of the main line running from Urengoy to Uzhhorod, which was intended to deliver Russian gas to Europe by early 2025. Upon their arrival, they faced a barrage of fire from Ukrainian forces.
The Russian military is still experiencing difficulties with operations in the Kursk region in western Russia. According to information from the General Staff in Kyiv, the Russians launched an attack on the Sudzha area, aiming to recapture the critical gas pipeline and a strategic Gazprom facility - reports "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
The Russians aimed to cross the gas pipeline, which is part of the main line from Urengoy to Uzhhorod, intended to deliver Russian gas to Europe by early 2025. If successful in recapturing the town of Sudzha, they would also regain the gas measurement station.
As reported by the Ukrainian General Staff on their Telegram channel, Russian troops were attacked with missiles, artillery, and drones.
As "FAZ" emphasises, this information cannot be independently verified, although Russian military blogs had reported an attempted assault on Sudzha earlier.
The Ukrainian army entered the Kursk region at the beginning of August 2024 and continues to operate in western Russia.
