The 15-year-old, despite swift intervention by emergency services, died at the scene. "Bild" reports that investigators suspect the young boy — reportedly an Iraqi citizen — was fleeing to the balcony after a group of men forced their way into the apartment.

In a desperate attempt to escape, he tried to climb down to a lower balcony but was unable to hold on and fell. The police believe it was a panicked manoeuvre in the face of an attack.

In total, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case, as reported by "Bild". On the night of the tragedy, five people were detained, of whom charges were brought against four Syrians aged 16 to 20. The fifth detainee, a 22-year-old Iraqi woman, was released due to insufficient evidence.

The court has ordered temporary arrest for all seven, and the charges relate to attempted grievous bodily harm resulting in death, as reported by "NDR".

At this stage of the investigation, the attackers' motive remains unclear. Police and prosecutors in Hamburg are continuing intensive efforts to determine the circumstances of the event.

Forensic technicians and police sniffer dogs were working at the scene of the tragedy, and the operation was extensive.
