US‑Ukraine relations advance with new intelligence and aid plan
The State Department announced that the USA will immediately resume intelligence sharing with Ukraine and security assistance. The decision was made after talks between high-ranking officials from the USA and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
The US State Department has announced the immediate resumption of intelligence sharing and security assistance for Ukraine. This decision was made following discussions between high-ranking officials from both countries in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement provided by Reuters, it was noted that the direct negotiations between US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah were crucial for the change in Washington's stance.
Ukraine agreed to the US proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire on the condition of Russia's compliance, as reported via Telegram by the head of the Ukrainian president's office.
"The delegations also discussed the importance of humanitarian actions in the peace process, especially during the mentioned ceasefire, including the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of detained civilians, and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children," conveyed Andriy Yermak.
New US strategy toward Ukraine
During the talks, Ukraine clearly expressed its support for the peace vision proposed by President Donald Trump. As Waltz emphasised, Kyiv accepted the proposal for a complete ceasefire, which influenced the decision to reopen intelligence channels and resume military support.
Mike Waltz also noted that in the coming days, he plans to hold talks with his Russian counterpart, while Marco Rubio is set to meet with the foreign ministers of the G7.
One of the key elements of the talks was reaching an agreement on the management of Ukraine's critical mineral resources. The USA and Ukraine agreed to promptly sign a comprehensive agreement.
