Zalando to reorganize customer support, 450 jobs affected
Zalando has announced plans to restructure its customer service department, which involves the reduction of several hundred jobs, though perhaps only temporarily. The German company, which specialises in online clothing sales, is simplifying its organisational structure, as reported by retaildetail.eu.
As part of this restructuring, Zalando plans to cut 450 jobs in its customer service departments. The company has determined that its current organisational structure is overly complex, prompting the need for measures to simplify processes.
Currently, Zalando operates three different internal customer service departments, according to retaildetail.eu. The company plans to establish a new customer service unit by the end of the summer, which will replace these three existing departments.
The new unit is expected to employ 200 people. All current customer service department employees, totalling 450, will lose their positions. However, this may only be temporary, as they will have the opportunity to apply for roles within the new structure, which is aimed at providing more efficient services.
Further redundancies at Zalando
This is not the first time Zalando has implemented significant job cuts. Two years ago, the company announced layoffs in its administrative and management departments in response to challenging macroeconomic conditions.
Zalando was founded in 2008 by David Schneider and Robert Gentz. In 2023, they explained that some areas of the company have grown too much in recent years.
