Algerian influencers detained in France for inciting violence
Two Algerian influencers have been detained in France for inciting violence. One of them called for terrorist attacks.
French authorities have detained two Algerian influencers accused of inciting violence.
According to "Le Figaro," the first influencer, known as Zazou Youcef, was arrested for calling for terrorist attacks. The second, Imad Tintin, was detained in Échirolles for making death threats and inciting racially and religiously motivated violence.
Imad Tintin, who had over 70,000 followers on TikTok, urged followers in his videos to "burn" those opposing the Algerian regime. In one recording, he stated: "I swear by Allah, we will [destroy] all of you, in France and Algeria. Those who know how to use weapons will finish you off. No one will protect you in France."
The influencer also expressed support for Zazou Youcef, who was previously sentenced to 12 months in prison for participating in riots in 2023. "I am with you, Zazou, my friend, and whoever wants blood, let them come closer," he said.
Authorities' reaction
The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, emphasised that Imad Tintin will have to answer in court for his statements. "Such behaviour cannot be allowed," he wrote on platform X. The "imadtintin" account on TikTok has been blocked.
The detentions occur amidst rising tensions between France and Algeria. Algeria accuses France of interfering in its internal affairs, further fuelling the conflict. Algerian media accuse the French special services of a "conspiracy."
