Android Auto 12.4 is now available for drivers to download. As usual, Google avoids directly stating what new features the update brings, but it is undoubtedly worth downloading before leaving for a holiday. Each new release of Android Auto typically includes at least bug fixes.

Android Auto 12.4 might also be necessary for implementing changes prepared on the server side. Google has demonstrated multiple times that it likes to use this approach. The app is ready to activate options that suddenly appear in cars when Google remotely enables them. However, this usually requires the latest version of the app.

Android Auto 12.4 could, therefore, bring drivers closer to long-prepared options, allowing the launch of several additional apps in cars. Soon, it will be possible to watch films from YouTube or Netflix on car screens—of course, only when the vehicle is stationary, similar to using games in the GameSnacks app.

Besides updating Android Auto, it is worth installing the latest versions of other apps displayed on the car screen when preparing for a holiday. So, if Google Maps is the primary navigation tool, it is also advisable to install its latest version. For Android Auto, remember that the effectiveness of voice control often depends on updating Google Assistant on the phone, not just Android Auto.

Generally, updating apps when new versions are released on Google Play is wise. One button can do this by checking the store on your phone. Some updates may not be available simultaneously for everyone, as Google releases them in batches. An alternative for Android Auto is to download the APK file and install it manually on the phone. This is also the only solution for smartphones with Android 10 and older versions.
