Argentine president removes Zelensky photo amid policy shifts

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, has updated his account on the platform X. Following an incident at the White House on Friday, the Argentine leader deemed it necessary to censor and remove a photograph from his social media, which linked him to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

A photo of the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, and Volodymyr Zelensky disappeared from the Argentine's account on the X platform.

In the photograph, the Argentine president stands next to the Ukrainian president, who is making a hopeful gesture.

The meeting took place in December 2023. President Volodymyr Zelensky had travelled to South America for the first time since Vladimir Putin invaded his country. He participated in the inauguration of Javier Milei, who had been elected president.

The President of Argentina does not want this photo. He has removed it from the social media platform

This is likely when the photograph was taken. Both leaders, giving their thumbs up, suggested that everything would turn out well.

The President of Argentina likely no longer holds this view. Since January, it has been known that Donald Trump has significantly influenced him. He is considering emulating the actions of the former US president, whom he admires.

Argentina might withdraw from the WHO and leave the Paris Climate Agreement. At the end of January, the Argentine biweekly "Perfil" reported on its website, citing sources from Milei's office, that the government plans to "capitalize on the momentum provided by Trump's victory" in the US elections to "regain sovereignty".

The photo with Zelensky disappeared from Milei's account after Friday's misunderstanding in the Oval Office. Javier Milei refused to comment on his decision.

This is not the first time the President of Argentina has had to make rapid corrections, which remain online indefinitely. In February, he published a post on platform X, encouraging investments in the newly created "Libra" token.

The value of the cryptocurrency rapidly soared, only to soon begin plummeting. Investors who had trusted the Argentine president collectively lost nearly €96.9 million. At that point, Milei quickly removed the post, but the scandal surrounding the "Libra" token damaged his reputation.
