Passengers at Gatwick Airport were left shocked after a baggage handler was suspended for aggressively throwing suitcases from a Wizz Air plane. Rather than simply moving the luggage, he hurled it with such force that the suitcases and their contents were at risk of severe damage. The Sun described the scene, noting that the handler tossed the bags with extreme force, likening them to missiles.

Response from the airline and employers

A passenger on a different plane captured the incident, and The Sun published the video. It shows the worker unloading luggage onto the conveyor belt with excessive force, demonstrating how seven suitcases were mishandled. This raises concerns that other luggage may have been similarly treated.

The baggage handlers' employer, Menzies, and Wizz Air have apologised to passengers for the incident, describing it as an "isolated case."

Despite the absence of footage from airport cameras, the video from another passenger was instrumental in identifying the worker, who now faces dismissal.

Terrible impact on reputation

In addition to apologising, the Hungarian airline has assured the public that an investigation has been launched to prevent similar incidents in the future. Such events are detrimental to the reputations of both airlines and airports.
