Batik Air flight chaos: Unruly passenger delays departure

Due to the behaviour of a passenger on Batik Air, the flight from Vietnam to Malaysia was delayed by an hour. This was because the woman refused to fasten her seatbelt.

During the Batik Air flight from Vietnam to Malaysia, an unusual incident occurred. A passenger travelling with a child refused to fasten her seatbelt, causing an hour's delay. The flight crew tried to calm the traveller, but she began to shout and caused a scene.

Conflict on board

During the standard check always carried out by flight attendants just before departure, the crew noticed that the passenger did not have her seatbelt fastened. Despite requests, the woman, a Vietnamese citizen, did not want to fasten it. In the recording, she can be seen arguing with a crew member who explains that the seatbelt is for the safety of her and her child. "I don't care, I don't have to listen to you," the passenger shouted to the flight attendant.

The argument led to the intervention of the authorities, who had to board and remove the aggressive woman. When the traveller left the plane, other passengers did not hide their satisfaction with how the situation turned out.

Commenters further praised the crew for their composure in such a nerve-wracking situation. "Respect is due to the flight attendants," "The staff were definitely much calmer than I would have been," "People need to be taught to follow rules and have good manners," read the comments on TikTok.

Danger during turbulence

Experts emphasise that unfastened seatbelts can be dangerous during turbulence. An example is an incident with Singapore Airlines where passengers without seatbelts were seriously injured. Dzafran Azmir, a witness to that incident, recalls how people without fastened seatbelts were thrown upwards during the plane's violent shakes.
