Bluesky soars as trust in Elon Musk's X dwindles

The American social media platform Bluesky is celebrating a major success, with over one million users signing up daily. This reflects a trend in social media, where new users are gravitating towards alternative platforms due to changes and declining trust in Elon Musk's X platform.

The decline in trust in the X platform translates into a sharp increase in the popularity of alternative social networks. This latest trend of user migration has been observed in newly established social media alternatives to the industry giants.

On Friday, Bluesky, an American social media platform founded in 2021 by Jack Dorsey, announced that over one million new users joined on a particular day. This information was shared on the service's official accounts on both Bluesky and X: "it's official — 1,000,000 people have joined Bluesky in just the last day!!! welcome."

Since mid-September, the number of people using Bluesky has grown from 10 million to 16 million. The platform is increasingly popular among users who have become disenchanted with the changes on X.

Threads, a messaging app owned by Meta, is also experiencing significant growth in its user base. Since the beginning of November, the number of people using Threads has increased by over 15 million, reaching 290 million, as reported by Meta on Thursday.

According to AFP, one of the main reasons for user migration is the decline in credibility of the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. After Elon Musk took over the service in October 2022, content moderation rules were relaxed, allowing accounts associated with the far right to return.

Some media outlets, such as the British "The Guardian" and the Spanish "La Vanguardia," have decided to withdraw from X, describing it as a "toxic media platform" that promotes disinformation.
