The cargo ship Amnah capsized at the Ambarli-Marpot port in Istanbul on 23rd December. As a result of the incident, some containers fell into the water, and five of the 15 crew members jumped overboard.

The remaining ten people were rescued by emergency services, and one individual with minor injuries was taken to hospital.

Causes of the accident

The governor of Istanbul province, Davut Gul, stated that the cause of the ship's capsizing might have been improperly balanced cargo. An investigation into this matter is ongoing.

The Ministry of Transport of Turkey has assured that there is no threat to the marine environment.

The Port Authority is taking steps to retrieve the containers from the water and raise the ship. Floating barriers have been placed around the site of the incident to prevent the containers from drifting away.
