Concern over US support withdrawal for Ukraine rises in Poland
A survey by SW Research for rp.pl reveals that 59% of Poles do not believe Europe can provide Ukraine with sufficient assistance to combat Russia without the involvement of the United States.
Concerns are growing across Europe about the potential reduction or complete withdrawal of American support for Ukraine, which could pressure Kyiv into peace negotiations with Moscow. These anxieties have intensified following Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections.
The worries are further compounded by the outgoing administration of Joe Biden, which has announced its intention to utilise all the funds allocated by the US Congress in April for aid to Ukraine until the end of the term. Additionally, Biden's administration plans to forgive over €4.3 billion ($4.5 billion) of Ukraine's debt arising from a loan granted using congressional funds.
Can Europe manage the war in Ukraine without US assistance?
"In your opinion, is Europe capable of providing Ukraine with sufficient assistance to resist Russia without US help?" – participants of the SW Research survey for rp.pl were asked this question.
Only 16.6% of Poles believe Europe, without US aid, can offer Ukraine adequate support. Conversely, 59% of respondents disagree, while 24.4% have no opinion on the issue.
The survey was conducted by the SW Research agency on 19th-20th November with 800 online participants over the age of 18 through the SW Panel online platform.
