Creamy transformation: Mashed potatoes with garlic oil

Classic mashed potatoes are typically made with butter and cream, contributing to their creamy texture and delicate flavour. However, there's a method that makes the potatoes even more velvety, adding depth to their flavour. Instead of the traditional fats, try using garlic oil to create a more aromatic and easily digestible purée that pairs perfectly with many dishes.

Garlic and oil are the perfect combination, giving the potatoes an exceptional aroma. Roasted garlic becomes delicate, sweet, and creamy, which blends splendidly with the velvety purée. Choosing olive oil instead of butter makes the dish lighter, richer in healthy fats, and more pronounced in taste. It's an excellent alternative to the classic way of preparing potatoes, especially for those who avoid dairy or are looking for new, interesting ideas for traditional dinner sides.

Recipe for mashed potatoes with olive oil and garlic

Mashed potatoes with olive oil and roasted garlic provide a simple way to enhance the classic potato flavour. They're lighter, more aromatic, and full of valuable nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kilogram of potatoes
  • Medium-sized head of garlic
  • 2-3 tablespoons of good-quality olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

  1. Peel the potatoes, cut into smaller pieces, and boil in salted water until soft, then drain.
  2. Cut the head of garlic in half, roast at 180°C for about 20 minutes until soft and golden.
  3. Press the roasted garlic into the cooked potatoes, add the olive oil, and mash or blend into a smooth mass.
  4. Season with salt and pepper, and serve warm as a side dish to main courses.

Why replace butter with olive oil?

Olive oil is a healthy fat, rich in omega-3 and omega-6 acids, which support heart health and the circulatory system. Unlike butter, which contains saturated fats, olive oil is lighter and more easily digestible, while adding a unique, subtly nutty flavour to dishes. The combination of garlic and olive oil not only enhances the purée's flavour but also aids digestion and boosts immunity.

Furthermore, this purée is ideal for individuals on a plant-based diet, those who are lactose intolerant, or anyone mindful of a healthier diet. It's a great alternative to the classic dinner side, pairing well with roasted veggies, fish, or meat.
