Forty-four-year-old Andrew Dutil was taken into custody in Palm Beach, Florida, after - according to witnesses - he drove his black Nissan SUV into a crowd of protesters outside a Tesla showroom.

Last Saturday, demonstrators gathered to protest against the actions of Elon Musk, who, they claim, has become a key advisor to President Donald Trump.

The media reported that the police had received numerous calls about the incident. According to the official statement, Dutil drove onto the pavement slowly, steering the vehicle directly into the crowd of demonstrators.

At the scene, officers discovered his car parked on the kerb, surrounded by protesters. During the intervention, the man offered no resistance. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Fortunately, none of the demonstrators were injured, although the situation could have ended tragically. ABC News reports that Dutil was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (in this case, a car), but without intent to kill.

One protest participant, Karen Holland, informed police officers that she had seen the same driver earlier, driving past the protesters and shouting insults. The atmosphere was tense from the morning.

Protests outside Tesla showrooms are currently taking place worldwide, mainly due to Elon Musk's increasingly controversial role in US politics. He is considered one of Donald Trump's most influential advisors, despite holding no official position.
