Drone precision: Ukrainian forces eliminate the russian T‑72B3 tank
Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian T-72B3 tank near the city of Lyman in the Donetsk region through a precise drone strike, according to the Ukrainian portal Defense Express. Despite their efforts, the Russians were unable to conceal one of their more valuable tanks in a building.
The report states that the Russian T-72B3 tank was destroyed near the town of Lyman. The tank was primarily concealed in a building and further reinforced with improvised armour. However, these precautions failed to hinder the Ukrainians, who first located the target and then successfully eliminated it. Drone pilots from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Separate Mechanised Brigade executed the operation.
Precise drone strike
Soldiers from the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade provided intelligence on the tank's movements. Upon confirming the target's location, Ukrainian forces swiftly took action. Two key targets were selected for the strike: the tank itself and a nearby ammunition depot.
Although extra protection and improvised shields were employed, the tank couldn’t withstand the accuracy of the loitering munition. The strike was precise, and the shaped charge pierced the armour, triggering a powerful explosion. According to members of the SIGNUM group, the tank was unquestionably destroyed—the blast echoed for quite some time, leaving no doubt that the vehicle was rendered immobile.
The T-72B3 tank, which dates back to the 1970s, has undergone numerous upgrades, with the most notable being the T-72B3 version. This variant gained recognition due to its modern Sosna-U sight and improved reactive armour. The T-72B3 model is equipped with a 2A46M 125 mm cannon and PKT machine guns of 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm calibres. These modifications have significantly increased its effectiveness on the battlefield.
