Dua Lipa is currently one of the most influential figures in international pop. Until now, few people knew about her fascination with literature, including the works of Polish writers. She has particularly admired the work of Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk, particularly her 2009 novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.

"Darkly humorous, deadly serious, and with a quirky cast of characters that will stay with you forever, this is definitely not to be missed. The author won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and when you read this novel, you’ll see why," she recommended to her readers as part of the reading corner she has been running on her Service95 platform for several years.

Now, the singer has decided to dedicate a separate interview to the book. To this end, she connected with its author, once again proving her great admiration for her literary works.

The pop star, as part of her monthly "recommendations," drew the attention of hundreds of thousands of fans to the thriller penned by the Polish author. She admitted that the book’s unusual title immediately encouraged her to read it.

"I’m a huge fan of hers. My friend works for your publisher in the UK and gave me a stack of books to read. When I saw the title, I was intrigued from the moment I picked it up," said Dua Lipa.

Olga Tokarczuk talked about the challenges associated with choosing a title for her novel. She mentioned that the publisher initially had doubts about introducing a book with such an unconventional and long title to the market. Her inspiration for the title came from a poem by one of the Nobel laureate’s favourite authors, William Blake.

It is worth noting that Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead has also been recognised by many other figures in the cultural world. Actor Pedro Pascal delved into the novel during a holiday break on the beach, which did not escape the attention of Instagram users. Meanwhile, in 2022, Natalie Portman, who, like Dua Lipa, shares her reading recommendations, wrote online,"Loving the way this fablelike Polish novel blends mystery, dark comedy, politics, and philosophy." The Oscar winner also had the opportunity to converse with her virtually.
