On X, she wrote that Musk would remain in his position until his work in the Department of Government Efficiency was complete. "This "scoop" is garbage" - emphasised Leavitt, referring to the speculation.

According to information from Politico, which cites three sources close to President Trump, Musk is expected to return to his businesses, such as Tesla and SpaceX, soon.

However, President Trump is pleased with his work, and both have agreed that Musk will continue to play a supporting role for the government. The president is happy with Musk and the agency he directs, reports Politico.

According to the website, some of the president's associates are concerned about the unpredictability of the billionaire. Some believe Musk is becoming a "political burden" for the administration.

Is the end of the DOGE government agency coming?

Trump himself said on Monday that the DOGE institution, led by Musk, "will sooner or later cease operations," and the entrepreneur is available as a special government employee for only four months. He noted that he has a substantial company to run, so he will eventually return to it.

DOGE is a government unit created at Trump's initiative on inauguration day, 20 January 2025, to reduce federal spending. According to CNN estimates, the agency's actions have resulted in the layoff of over 120,000 federal employees.

Elon Musk's team is being criticized for the manner in which it conducts cuts. Accusations include a lack of transparency and the dismantling of entire structures, such as the aid agency USAID.
