European wine exports to Russia rebound sharply in February
In February this year, the European Union significantly increased wine exports to Russia, as reported by the Kremlin agency RIA Novosti, citing Eurostat data. The value of wine imported by Russians from Poland almost doubled.
In February 2025, following several months of declining wine exports to Russia, the European Union unexpectedly heightened the volume of wine being sent to Russia. According to Eurostat data, as cited by the Kremlin's propagandistic agency, sales of wine originating from the EU rose by 14 per cent compared to January, reaching a total of 7,500 tonnes. This marks the highest figure since November last year.

Four main suppliers recorded an increase in exports. Poland nearly doubled its wine sales to Russia, reaching a volume of 1,200 tonnes (an increase of 80 per cent). Italy and Portugal also saw their exports rise by 25 per cent, to 2,800 tonnes and 878 tonnes, respectively. Meanwhile, 1,400 tonnes of wine were exported to Russia from Latvia.
The only country to reduce its exports was Germany. Sales of German wine to the Russian market more than halved in February to 230 tonnes, from 543 tonnes in January. The total value of wine purchased by Russia from the EU amounted to 28 million euros.
Despite the increase in wine imports, Russia is also gradually boosting its own wine production. From January to February 2025, production reached 680,000 hectolitres, marking an increase of 5 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
