When you think of grilling, the first things that probably come to mind are sausages, pork chops, or kebabs. While these are certainly delicious options, the list of barbecue delights can be much longer. A fantastic example is chicken wings. They are not only tasty but also easy to prepare. You don't need complicated ingredients to create something special. All it takes is a simple marinade, which you will find below.

Why is it worth marinating chicken?

Marinating chicken before grilling is not just about taste but also the texture of the meat. The marinade makes the meat more tender and juicy. This process can be accelerated using acids like lemon juice or vinegar, which loosen muscle fibres. It's also beneficial to add oils and spices that penetrate deep into the meat, enhancing its flavour. In our recipe, we take it a step further and use butter for the fat, along with other liquid additions like passata and maple syrup.

How to make grilled wings?

The key ingredients are not only the poultry but also the marinade. A sweet-garlic mix is an ideal flavour combination for chicken wings. When grilling, it's important to keep a few rules in mind. The meat should be at room temperature before placing it on the grill to ensure even cooking. Avoid drying out the chicken — grilling over medium heat and regularly turning the pieces helps maintain its juiciness.

Ingredients for the marinade

  • About 800 grams of chicken wings,
  • 85 grams of butter,
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar,
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup,
  • 2 cloves of garlic,
  • 200 grams of tomato passata,
  • 1 tablespoon of granulated onion,
  • 2 tablespoons of dried marjoram,
  • 1 tablespoon of sweet paprika,
  • 1 teaspoon of salt.

Preparation method:

  1. Begin by preparing the marinade. In a pot on the hob, combine butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup.
  2. Once the butter has melted, add tomato passata, crushed garlic, and spices: granulated onion, marjoram, paprika, and salt. Mix everything thoroughly.
  3. Place the cleaned wings in a large bowl and pour the prepared marinade over them. Mix well so all the ingredients combine properly. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  4. After this time, place the wings on a preheated grill. Grill each side for 10 minutes until they turn golden.
  5. Serve the wings with parsley, sauces, or dips. A light salad is also a great addition. Enjoy!
